Frequently Asked Questions

What documents should I bring to the first meeting?

It helps to bring every document you have relating to the dispute: contracts, title deed or registration records, notifications, formal notices, correspondence, photographs and your identification. Missing documents are not an obstacle; what is needed is identified together during the meeting.

How is a power of attorney given?

A power of attorney is issued at any notary office. The lawyer's name and bar registration details are given to the notary, and the process is usually quick. Those abroad can also issue a power of attorney at a Turkish consulate.

How are legal fees determined?

Legal fees are set in a written fee agreement, taking into account the nature and scope of the work, within the framework of the Attorneys' Act and the Minimum Attorney Fee Tariff published annually by the Union of Turkish Bar Associations.

How long will my case take?

Duration depends on the type of case, the court's workload, expert examinations and appeal stages, so no definite timeframe can be given. You are, however, informed of the expected timeline at every stage.

How can I follow my case?

You are regularly informed of developments in your matter. You can also follow hearing dates, documents and payment records through the client portal on your phone or computer, and add it to your phone's home screen to use it like an app.

Is mediation mandatory before filing a lawsuit?

For certain disputes, applying to a mediator before filing a lawsuit is a precondition. These include employment disputes, commercial receivables, consumer disputes, lease disputes, condominium disputes and actions for partition of co-ownership.

Why are time limits so important?

Many rights can be lost if not exercised within certain time limits, such as limitation periods, time bars, and deadlines for objections and appeals. It is therefore important to seek legal support promptly once a dispute arises.

Are matters outside Istanbul handled?

Yes. Matters across Turkey can be followed through the national judicial network (UYAP), and arrangements are made where attendance at hearings is required.

Are our discussions confidential?

Yes. Under the Attorneys' Act, a lawyer is bound to keep confidential any information learned in the course of practice. Your personal data is processed in line with the Privacy Notice.
